Bing News and Tips Re: Yahoo and Instant Answers for Mobile

1) We mentioned last week that Bing and Yahoo were working behind the scenes to make Bing the primary search provider at Yahoo (note the powered by Bing text at the very bottom results page for web, image, and video search results pages.

Today, official notice that the job is complete and now all English language search results on Yahoo are powered by Bing. Btw, more languages in the weeks and months ahead.

It's also important to remember that although the Yahoo database is via Bing, the search features that Yahoo has always offered remain available. The underlying database is what has changed.

For example, at the bottom of some Yahoo image and video results (depending on your search) you'll notice a box that reads, "others who searched for xxx also searched for..." Clicking the image, runs a search for that person, place, thing on Yahoo. Bing does not offer this feature which we believe is fairly new to Yahoo.

We also want to remind you that if the Yahoo homepage is to busy, cluttered, (choose your term), Yahoo's clean, clear, and ad-free homepage remains online.

2) Another note from Bing points out that they now offer instant answers using their mobile interface at m.bing.com. You can access flight info, local info, movie info (including showtimes), weather, and stock quotes. More info and screen shots on this page.

Btw, Google offers flight info in the drop down box and movie info. However, simply entering a ticker symbol does not produce quote. Both offer some form of local results. We found more categories of types of local info triggered on Bing Mobile.
