That's a long intro to another library that's a "power user" of Facebook. This time we're mentioning the Public Libraries of Suffolk County, New York that is also doing some very creative stuff with their Facebook page. It's a great example of putting the resources where people can find them.
The libraries market their digital resources (what some might call a virtual library) as Live-brary.com. Their web site looks great and does a nice job of promoting their electronic services.
+ A Search Box for the OPAC and Access to All of the Services on the Home Page (Click on the Facebook page and you're delivered to the primary web site). While the web site listing of resources is good we like the Facebook listing even more.
+ Access to the Facebook Wall (Of course)
+ The Live-brary.com Flickr Stream
+ Access to the Live-brary.com YouTube Channel
+ Subscribe to Two RSS Feeds
We hope to post more about Live-brary.com on Facebook very soon. Excellent job and kudos to everyone involved. We're looking forward to see what you'll do next. One thing we would love to see is more attention on the Facebook site to your virtual reference service. If people can ask questions to Facebook why can't they ask other questions to your virtual reference service.
Finally, we would love to hear about other libraries using Facebook, Twitter, etc. in the "power" mode. Perhaps we can turn the idea into a virtual show and tell. (-:
