The iPhone App "TRACpac" is also available in Canada and the U.S. It's also a free download and went live in March and was updated in June. Learn more here.
This map provides a look at where the various library consortiums that make up TRAC are located in Alberta.
Specifically, the Yellowhead Regional Library (YRL) serves 250,000 residents in 49 municipalities. Here, you'll find another map showing specifically where Yellowhead member libraries are located with links to their web sites. Finally, a look at the schools that are served by YRL.
The Yellowhead Regional Library and TRAC use technology from Polaris Library Systems.
Polaris customer Yellowhead Regional Library (YRL) announced the availability of its iPad application, YourLibrary, from the Apple store. The free app enables staff and patrons to search and place a hold in the library's catalog from their iPad, as well as find similar titles provided by NoveList Select.
"We're excited to offer our patrons another way to find the information they need from the library quickly and easily from any location," said Kevin Dodds, Yellowhead Regional Library director. "With the iPad app, patrons can search nearly three million books, CDs, DVDs, and other materials from their iPad. What's more, library staff can easily connect with patrons from within the library by providing roaming reference and search assistance."
The "Your Library" iPad app and the TRAC iPhone app were both developed using the services of Hybrid Forge, an Edmonton-based company that specializes in database-driven web development.
While there are a growing number of iPhone/iTouch apps that will also run on an iPad, we're checking (feedback anyone?) but as of now believe that "Your Library" is the first app specifically for the iPad from a brick/mortar library.
The International Children's Digital Library offers an iPad app but we would place this wonderful digital library in another category.
Update: Although the Your Library iPad app is listed becoming available in late June, today and the Polaris announcement was the official launch.

Recently I have found myself cooing over visualisation maps (and heat maps) of health and well being resources. The content rich data is overlayed with mapping technologies, and some interesting themes and patterns are emerging.
A lot of the talk around social media in the last year has been around information overload. Social media has provided us with new and exciting ways to create content. But it has also meant learning new ways to manage and engage with social media tools. Are we teetering on the edge of an information overload precipice?
Information overload is a figment of your imagination. Or a failure of your filter. Or a symptom of your technological submissiveness. Depends on who you ask.
What if you had to sort through 3.5 million articles and social media posts a day and try to pull out the most relevant items for your organisation? What if you then had to cobble it all together into something readable for your top groups and executives in your organisation?
