Calgary Newspaper Publishes/Posts a Brief But Fact-Filled Article About the Calgary Public Library

Metro, an ad supported newspaper (free to the reader) in Calgary and several other Canadian cities (as well as cities around the globe), has a brief but fact-filled article today about the many services that the Calgary Public Library (CPL) offers.

The article is titled, "Metro Minute at the Public Library" by Brette Ehalt.

+ You'll learn from the CPL's April Granger that new items are added to the collection every 71 seconds

+ 2.6 million items, 16 branches

+ Also mentions of free wi-fi and of course borrowing books, DVD's and CD's.

+ Finally (remember, it's only about a minutes worth of content) we were pleased that online databases also got mentioned.

“Our databases are super cool. Check out Newspapers Direct, your online access to hundreds of newspapers in real-time, or ‘Tell Me More,’ a language-learning database,” said Ganger.

Those are two great database examples. Newspapers Direct is what we call an ooh and ahh database when shown to people. We still ooh and ahh when we see it.

Hopefully, current users will remember (or perhaps learn for the first time) that the library offers a WIDE variety of tools. At the same time, it might MOTIVATE non-users to visit the library and take a look at these and many other databases and services, get a card, and then have access to these resources from any computer that can access the Internet.
