New Mobile Website from the GAO: Government Accountability on the Go

We think this quickly become one of the more popular U.S. Government mobile sites. It looks great.

Access the mobile site should automatically be detected and displayed when you use a BlackBerrys, iPhones, Droids, and other small-screen mobile devices and use the http://www.gao.gov.

From the Announcement:

The mobile website’s content is organized under three main tabs. The first allows users to browse the latest GAO reports and testimonies; the second provides users with the agency’s legal decisions and opinions; and the third, entitled “In the Spotlight,” highlights especially timely GAO work. Visitors to the website can also use its search feature to quickly find specific GAO products. The mobile version of GAO’s website is automatically opened by visiting the same URL as GAO’s regular website, www.gao.gov, via a mobile device.

There is also a search box to find and access all other GAO reports, testimonies, and other materials. When you find a report of interest, a summary appears formatted for the mobile device. To access the full text report select from a PDF version or an "accessible text" version which is specifically designed for users with visual impairments but for the mobile user loads quickly and is a quick way to get to the text. However, the text version does not include any charts, tables, etc. You can also access the "Recommendations" portion of the report in HTML and in some cases a brief document with report highlights as a PDF.

Documents can easily be shared on a number of social nets as well as emailed.

After just a few minutes of time with GAO Mobile on an iPhone, the site was easy to use and find, access, and read GAO content.
