Google's First Employee, Craig Silverstein, Heads Back to Hometown & Gives Speech in Gainesville, FL. (Where His Bar-Mitzvah Was Held)

Note from Gary: I've had the opportunity to "break bread" with Craig a couple of times over the years. A great guy and as you might guess, one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. It took me about 20 seconds of chatting with him to realize that.

As for going back and giving a speech at the synagogue where you had your Bar-Mitzvah, it's very cool and a great honor. But as a key individual who helped make Google, Google, it's more than well deserved. Congrats, kudos, and mazel tov, Craig!

Btw, how about some trivia about Google's first employee?

Silverstein was the keeper of The Muppets FAQ and the founder of the rec.arts.henson+muppets newsgroup.

Today, during his talk he said that the future of search is all about mobile.

From the Gainesville Sun:

Craig Silverstein is an Eastside High School graduate and was visiting town for his 20-year reunion. He spoke at another significant site from his past -- the location of his bar mitzvah, Congregation B'nai Israel -- about technological changes to the Internet search business.

"Mark my words: In 10 years, almost all the searches that you do are going to be from a phone -- or from a phone-like device that hasn't been invented yet," he said.

On the Perfect Search:

"We're closer than we used to be, but we're still 150 years away, maybe," he said.
