Mobile Web: Clicker, the Directory to Online Television, Has Released Mobile Versions for iPhone and Android

Hmm. How should we do this? Let's start with some background about Clicker. If you're a regular user or just want to get to the NEW iPhone and Android app info, just scroll down the page to the, "Clicker MOBILE is Here!!!" header.

Some Clicker Background

1. Clicker is a web site at http://clicker.com or using a beta interface at http://tv.clicker.com/. More info about the beta interface here (near the top).

2. The web-based version of Clicker officially launched in November, 2009. It's often referred to as the "TV Guide" for the web which is easy to understand and share with others but in reality it's more. Also, "TV Guide" costs money, access to the Clicker database (and a lot but not all of the content) is FREE. Clicker also has many social options that are explained here. We don't think it's possible to do most of them with your TV Guide. (-:

3. You'll also find sections with a constantly updating guide to live streams, playlists that includes alerts to tell you when new episodes of the programs you select become available. Clicker is also home to a massive compilations of music videos.

4. The content comes from all of the major U.S. networks and a growing number of web originals, programming you'll can only see on the Internet. The database provide direct links to the programs. They might be completely free and ready to stream and view or available for a fee from iTunes Amazon.com. or Netflix. With Amazon and Netflix, more and more of their content can be streamed to you immediately for a fee or if you have a subscription.

5. From the point of view of someone searching for an episode or browsing for a new program to take a look at, Clicker has a LOT of access points to find content and an equal number to refine your results.

In February, they launched a "search within" option and in March, 2010 new features came to the homepage.

One final note, at the very bottom of the Clicker homepage you can find in a single spot these indexes to browse:

+ Television Index
+ Television Shows
+ Web Originals Index
+ Web Originals Shows
+ Movies Index

+ All Movies
+ Music Index
+ Music Artists
+ Live Events
+ Networks and Sources

Clicker MOBILE is Here!!!

Now, available for Clicker are mobile apps for iPhone (launching next week) and Android (ready to go today). This Clicker blog post has details.

Fast Facts

+ Access Entire Clicker Database AND SHOWS WHAT PROGRAMS (not all of them will be) are accessible on your mobile device.

+ Social Features? Are you kidding? Of course!

Using a Clicker Mobile app, you’ll be able to manage your profile, keep track of your friends’ activity streams, check-in to shows you’re watching, and earn awesome awards.

The blog post continues on with several screen shots:

+ The search interface

+ Options to "check-in,' share, and comment. Btw, here's a brand new blog post about getting the most from Clicker Social.

+ Manage and update your playlist(s), be alerted when new episodes become available.

That's it for now. If you're an Android user, go have some fun. If you're an iPhone user (like the ResourceShelf team is), just a few more days and we'll be ready to go.

Congrats and Kudos to the Clicker team. We've been looking forward to this.

Disclosure: Clicker's CEO, Jim Lanzone, and a few other execs used to work with Gary at Ask.com. He has not worked with any of them for over 2.5 years.
