Wow! Amazing! A World Cup Info Resource from ITA Software (Yes, the Company Google Just Bought)

So you can take a look and share the site with others EVEN if you're not/they're not World Cup Soccer/Football fans, let's move quickly through a very basic intro.

1. As you know, a couple of week's ago ITA Software (a travel info company) was purchased by another company you know very well, Google (-; for $700 million.

2. As we pointed out in our Google/ITA post, ITA Software has another product (beyond travel info) named Needle.

3. Needle's technology takes info from disparate sources. Normalizes. "Merges, deduplicates and cleanses."

+ Data Types: Structured Web, XML Feeds, Spreadsheets, etc.

+ Data is acquired by scraping, uploads, and import.

+ Build, decide on how to view/visualize info, publish

+ A Summary of Needle Features

+ This video has a demo of building a Needle "domain" and a second video on how the World Cup "domain" was created.

+ Much more in the FAQ including an explanation of how Needle's web-scraper works.

That's just a few lines about how some sophisticated technology works. Of course, more on the web site.

Now, a "domain" with World Cup stats and World Cup history that was built using Needle.

Visit World Cup History from Needle

Stats from every match in 2010 including the the semifinals to every match from every World Cup back to 1930.

Just about every number/stat/country name is hyperlinked.

How the database was built. Data source.

So, in addition to the "state of the art" air travel software Google acquired (have you tried Matrix 2?) they also have technology that can build these types of resources.

Next time, another example of Needle at work.
