A practical contribution and wonderful example of library marketing follows.
The centre, which was opened last Friday by the chairman, National Library Board, Alhaji Zanna Mustapha, will operate throughout the period of the World Cup holding in South Africa.
According to the chairman, this gesture is a contribution to the adequate viewership of the world cup matches and also to curry youth patronage to the library, which is situated in the heart of the city centre.
”Having realised the dearth in the reading culture especially among Nigerian youth, the National Library of Nigeria devised a means of attracting them to the various centres, one of which is the viewing of the World Cup matches. There is now an awareness that they can come over to the library, read and also watch matches. Currently the readership promotion scheme is running in all the states of the federation, including the FCT, and the youths are embracing it,” Mustapha said.
The event, which witnessed a large turn-out of youths in the area, served also as an opportunity to have a tour of the ultra-modern library.
