Good News (NOT): Another California School District to Close All of Its Libraries

More sad and bad news from California.

Paradise Unified Schools has announced that they'll be closing all of their K-8 school libraries.

From the Article:

All Paradise Unified School District K-8 libraries will be closed immediately, and Cedarwood School in Magalia will close in 2011.

Though trustees last week technically voted to close an unnamed school, they acknowledged during the meeting they were talking about Cedarwood.

The district is legally required to submit a three-year budget to the county by the end of the month. Even after Wednesday's reductions, however, the district will have to submit a qualified budget, which means PUSD may not meet its financial obligations.

Currently, the three year projection shows a $1.2 million deficit by the end of 2012-13.

The board also voted reluctantly to close all K-8 libraries beginning in the fall. The board had already voted to eliminate library funding in 2011. The estimated savings are $98,000 for one year.
