Map: Most Influential People on Twitter – Cosmic 140

Flowing Data reports that Information Architects has placed the final beta of their annual web trends map online. This year's map features the 140 most influential Twitter users (aka The Cosmic 140) based on volume. Flowing Data was even nice enough to list the Top 5.

1. Barack Obama (@BarackObama)'
2. Lady Gaga (@ladygaga)
3. CNN Breaking News (@cnnbrk)
4. Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13)
5. Pete Cashmore (@mashable)

That's quite a variety of people and sources in the top. In fact, Flowing Data's Peter Yau asks, "How about those American values?" We think he is on to something. (-:

Yau also offers a succinct description of how the map is laid out:

As you can guess from the name, the layout and design revolve around a solar system metaphor. Founders rest in the middle, influential tweeters rest on the outer orbits, and followers are shown with surrounding edges. The longer a person has been a Twitter user, the closer to the middle he, she, or the company appears. The more a person is listed, the larger the white circle, and the more followers, the larger the surrounding transparent circle. Finally, people are placed on the 360° by category (e.g. entertainment or politics).

To access a web version (PDF) of the map head to this URL.

Once the PDF opens you might have to enlarge to the map by either going to view--zoom--in. Or, on a Mac just hold down the Command key and begin hitting the plus key. It's very very similar minus the command key on a PC.

Of course, it's Information Architects hope that you purchase the map. Info about doing that is on the Cosmic 104 web page. Once off the press, the posted with cost $99/U.S.

Finally, follow other goings on at Information Architects follow @iA on Twitter. and they also produce a free daily newsletter provides links to top info tech news stories.
