New Online Resource: Digital Curation and Preservation Bibliography, Version 1
Charles W. Bailey, Jr., Publisher of the Digital Scholarship resources and compiler of several excellent web-based (an open access) bibliographies, has done it again with a new bibliography with the release of the Digital Curation and Preservation Bibliography, Version 1.
This bibliography presents selected English-language articles, books, and technical reports that are useful in understanding digital curation and preservation. Most sources have been published between 2000 and the present; however, a limited number of key sources published prior to 2000 are also included. Where possible, links are provided to sources that are freely available on the Internet, including e-prints for published articles in disciplinary archives and institutional repositories. Note that e-prints and published articles may not be identical.
All of Bailey's resources are more than worthy of knowing about, sharing, and using.
They're not only valuable today to those who have been in the profession for many years to library/information. We think students who "tweet" information about these resources to their classmates will likely make a few new friends. (-: Of course, these bibliographies will also be very valuable to those who research this period of time in the "information world" years from now.
...references to new works related to scholarly electronic publishing, such as books, journal articles, magazine articles, technical reports, and white papers.
This bibliography presents selected English-language articles and other works that are useful in understanding Google Books. It primarily focuses on the evolution of Google Books and the legal, library, and social issues associated with it. Where possible, links are provided to works that are freely available on the Internet, including e-prints in disciplinary archives and institutional repositories. Note that e-prints and published articles may not be identical.

Recently I have found myself cooing over visualisation maps (and heat maps) of health and well being resources. The content rich data is overlayed with mapping technologies, and some interesting themes and patterns are emerging.
A lot of the talk around social media in the last year has been around information overload. Social media has provided us with new and exciting ways to create content. But it has also meant learning new ways to manage and engage with social media tools. Are we teetering on the edge of an information overload precipice?
Information overload is a figment of your imagination. Or a failure of your filter. Or a symptom of your technological submissiveness. Depends on who you ask.
What if you had to sort through 3.5 million articles and social media posts a day and try to pull out the most relevant items for your organisation? What if you then had to cobble it all together into something readable for your top groups and executives in your organisation?
