New Mobile Web Site from UCSF (University of California, San Francisco)
Although our focus are mobile sites from libraries but why not share university-wide mobile sites when possible? If you look at the UCSF Mobile homepage you'll notice it mentions that it's powered by the UCSF Library. What does that mean?
The UCSF Mobile Web is developed and maintained by the UCSF Library.
One of the most useful features of the library portion of the site is at the bottom of each page. Note the link to go move directly up the hierarchy back to the top-level page.
+ How Do I
Answers questions about wi-fi access, renewing books, and more. You can not renew materials using the mobile site but a link to the main library catalog (non-mobile friendly) is provided.
+ Mobile Resources
Info about how to get on to the VPN if you're off campus. Doing this is essential for off-campus users and the pages to do it are all non-mobile. Hopefully, mobile versions (if possible) will be part of the next release.
Databases Include:
+ Academic Search Complete (EBSCO)
+ Business Source Complete (EBSCO)
+ CINAHL Plus with Full Text
+ MedlinePlus (Mobile Version of the Public Site)
+ PubMed@UCSF (Mobile Version of Public Site)
+ RefWorks
+ STAT!Ref
+ Where is It?
Locations of various services (by floor) along with where to find computer labs and study spaces. Maps organized by floor are also provided.
+ News
What you would expect. For example, there's a link to a story from last Friday about journal cuts.
+ Links to "Ask a Question" by Phone or Email
You can also schedule a pre-arranged research consultation here (via email). We always like to see that clicking a phone number will automatically dial it. A time saver with a bit of safety attached.
3. UCSF Events
Plenty of content here but in many cases you have to leave the mobile site and go the the main (non-mobile friendly site).
4. University News (Including the Use of RSS) For:
+ UCSF News Office
+ Library News
+ Science Cafe
+ School of Pharmacy
and two links to non-mobile web sites.
5. A Searchable Directory of UCSF "People"
6. A Page to Provide Feedback
7. FAQ's (Focusing on the Mobile Site)
8. About Page
Credits, Contact, and Other Info
Overall, a good start. Excellent looking icons. Hopefully, the next release will not only have more content but also more mobile friendly sites (like the library catalog). We're not big fans of the background color on the main page but that's just us. There could be much bigger issues.
