Mobile Web: Scan Products and Shop at Your Local Target Store

Target continues to expand their mobile web services.

The "Bargain Blog" in the Greensboro, NC. News-Record reports that Target customers with an iPhone or iTouch can scan items in their stores and get pricing and additional product information (ratings, reviews, and availability at home or in the store.) The scanning software is part of the Target app (version 3.3) that's free in the app store and was released last month.

In March, Target debuted a program to send scannable coupons directly to smartphones. You can register for the service at:

http://m.target.com

or by texting COUPONS to 827438 (Target).

The Wall St. Journal has written that:

Target may be just about the largest retailer to roll out this sort of effort in all of its stores. The retailer claims its advanced point-of-sale technology makes it the first national retailer with the ability to scan mobile barcodes in all of its stores.

A major player in the paperless coupon space is Cellfire. They offer various stores (search by Zip Code to determine what's available in your area). Cellfire also includes grocery coupons. You can quickly see if your phone is compatible with the service by visiting this page.
