Fast Facts: CIA World Factbook Continues to Add Lists and Rankings
We've recently https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2120.html?countryName=World&countryCode=xx®ionCode=oc#xx and a post from the other day confirmed that the CIA World Factbook continues to add "Top 10" or "Top 15" or other lists in in the "World" section of the factbook.
Here's a list/rankings of what's currently available. Again, these lists are located in the "World" section.
This entry provides a rank ordering of languages starting with the largest and sometimes includes the percent of total population speaking that language.
The online CIA World Factbook is now updated bi-weekly. As new lists become available we will do our best to note them on ResourceShelf.
Btw, we would be very happy to see the World Factbook include the source of each list (and stat for that matter). It adds more authority to the info and can potentially help a researcher to determine what other stats the organization, publication, etc. offers online and/or in point, for free or a fee. In many ways it's like saying (with a few exceptions) that the news article your writing about and sharing comes from Yahoo News. Yes, in some cases Yahoo News does provide unique content but for the most part Yahoo News (and Google News, too) aggregate disparate stories from many news organizations.
