Librarians Discuss E-books During Seminar at London Book Fair

Students are dissatisfied with the lack of an interactive experience in academic e-books, Cranfield University librarian Hazel Woodward told delegates at LBF seminar "Digital Challenges Facing Libraries" this morning.

She also said there were issues for librarians in finding out what e-books were available: "There is no equivalent to Books in Print‚ and our acquisitions staff spend a long time searching around." And Woodward reiterated librarians ongoing demand for digital course textbooks: "These are titles we cannot buy. There is huge demand and they are not available for purchase."

Meanwhile Martin Palmer, principal officer of Essex County Council libraries, said that the general public was still very confused about e-books, even as multiple public library services are making them available to users.
