One surprise: the Pulitzer committee also bestowed honors on online-only start-up ProPublica, which shared the Investigative Reporting Prize with the Philadelphia Daily News. The ProPublica piece (written by Sheri Fink and published in The New York Times), about the life-and-death decisions made by staff at a New Orleans hospital days after Hurricane Katrina, was moved by the Pulitzer board from the Feature Writing category, according to pulitzer.org.
