Resources: Stephen Abram's on the Value of Libraries

Stephen Abram***, former SLA President, VP at Gale/Cengage; Founder and Editor of Stephen's Lighthouse, and that's only a start. We could go on and on for an entire post with a list of what he's done. Needless to say, Mr. Abram is at or near the top of the "librarian chain" (similar to the "food chain) for many people (including this publication). Almost forgot, he's also a Canadian and we're big fans and major admirers of all things Canada and Canadians at ResourceShelf. In fact, Gary is proud to be called a Canuckaphile, a title Stephen gave him a couple of years ago.

Btw, we need to mention that Stephen has been a longtime friend and a mentor to the ResourceShelf team.

Now, back to the post, already in progress.

During the past week or so, Stephen has been posting about the value of libraries and including links to numerous resources including library value studies and related reports.

A visit to this post on "Lighthouse" will provide you with direct links to the six "link rich" postings that cover:

The Value of:

+ Public Libraries

+ School Libraries

+ Academic and College Libraries

+ Special Libraries

Plus, you'll have access to a list of "save the library organizations" and links/info about "springboard stories."

Stephen writes, "Proof of the value and impact of libraries is not enough. Sad but true. You have to combine these proofs with the power of storytelling." And springboard stories can assist in making this task successful.

Block off some time and take a look at the links and commentary that might be most helpful to you.
