New Mobile Web Site: U. of Illinois Library at Urbana-Champaign

News of the new mobile site (beta) came this morning.

It's accessible at:
http://m.library.illinois.edu/.

From the Announcement:

The University Library established a working group that was charged with planning, developing, and maintaining an information access environment for Library users who have mobile devices, including iPhone and BlackBerry phones. The new mobile site is expected to serve as the platform for delivering a growing array of mobile services in the future.

The capability to text a librarian is new. University Library users may text a librarian with questions through the mobile site or SMS text 217-686-4361 from any mobile phone that supports text messaging. Standard charges apply, based on the user’s mobile phone plan with the account provider, for both messages sent and received.

Library users without a mobile device on hand can view the mobile site.

The mobile site allows you to:

+ Search the Library Catalog (You Can Limit to Four Search Fields or All Fields).

Users can select the UIUC (U. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) Catalog or all the I-Share Libraries Catalog. Entries include an image of the book cover (if available), hyperlinked topics (search headings, this feature appears to need some work. A full subject heading string does not appear to be clickable in a single click, but that's why it's a beta). Finally, you'll also see a link to request the book.

+ Library Hours, Locations (with a Map), Tel. No., Web Address.
You can also quickly identify all libraries open at whatever time your looking.

+ Access Mobile Databases
Including WorldCat, PubMed, Wikipedia, Ebsco, IEEE Xplore, RefWorks, Google Books

+ Send a Text to a Librarian

+ Send Feedback
