National Library of Malaysia to Provide Online Borrowing, Service Begins in July

National Libraries are busy places these days. Yesterday, we posted about the National Library of India getting ready to offer eBooks and other e-resources.

Today, we head to the National Library of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

According to press reports, in July, as the library launches their digital lib"borrow online" perhaps the word "order books online" is a bit clearer.

In other words, select books online and have them delivered by mail to their doorstep.

From NNN-Bernama:

"The books will be delivered by post. We want to change the mindset that books can only be borrowed at libraries and to provide better knowledge services," director-general Raslin Abu Bakar said at the launch of Community of Practice (CoP) here Thursday.

He said the library sector needs to be proactive in studying issues facing the community by creating new ideas to make our libraries world class.

Meanwhile, Digital Library director Nafisah Ahmad told Bernama the cost of delivery was still under discussion with Pos Malaysia.

She said the books could be returned by contacting Pos Malaysia or by sending the books to selected post offices.

Btw, here's a list of digital initiatives (with links if available) at the National Library of Malaysia.
