Yes, No, Yes: Acquisition Deal Between Liblime and PTFS is Back On, Announcement Made Today

Yes, according to this announcement, PTFS [Progressive Technology Federal Systems, Inc] will become the owner of LibLime.

If this sounds like you've heard it before, you have.

+ On January 13, 2010, PTFS announced they were going to acquiring LibLime.

+ Then, On February 12, 2010, we learned that the deal between the two companies was over, cancelled, not going to happen, etc. Btw, the actual news announcement is gone but if you would like to see it, cached copies are still available from Bing and Google.

Here's the Announcement:

Progressive Technology Federal Systems, Inc. (PTFS), an industry-leading library solutions provider and developer of the ArchivalWare digital library and content management software, has acquired LibLime, the global leader in open-source software solutions for libraries.

PTFS has supported ILS solutions for 15 years, so the acquisition of LibLime and the addition of their Koha customer base is logical expansion for PTFS. With our in-depth knowledge of both the bibliographic and digital collection arenas, we are in an excellent position to bring the necessary technologies to libraries. We will make the Koha Open-Source ILS more cost-effective for libraries struggling to keep pace with commercial pricing during tough economic times. We welcome the opportunity to partner with all of these new customers to advance the capabilities of Koha," stated John Yokley, PTFS CEO.

The first order of business will be to transition the existing LibLime customers into PTFS’s support center. PTFS will focus on enhancing customer support for the LibLime contracts acquired and will immediately assign additional resources required to accomplish this task. PTFS will also take over all existing development projects already under way at LibLime...

PTFS pledges to enhance and maintain the www.koha.org site as the focal point for the world’ s Koha activities– the place to find the latest information on Koha support, documentation, news, and downloads.

One thing we noticed between today's press release and the one from January is the mention of LibLime’s founding CEO, Joshua Ferraro. In January it said he would, "continue to lead LibLime’s current development projects to conclusion." In today's announcement, Ferraro is not mentioned.

Fast Facts About PTFS:

+ Based in Bethesda, MD
+ Company Started in 1995
+ "Our core business is centered around building digital libraries and digitizing archival collections."
+ Offer Staffing and Consulting Services for Libraries
+ ArchivalWare is a Core Product
