DDOT's (DC Dept. of Transportation) Utilizes Twitter During Blizzard

Many of us are still digging out from the blizzard, but one local government used the experience as a learning tool for the implementation of Web 2.0 technology -- the D.C. Department of Transportation.

During the snowfall, there was a lot of commentary on the Web 2.0 sites like Twitter and Facebook.

DDOT used that information as a way to get help to the public and coordinate efforts.

"One of the things that we've done so far is we just have one Twitter account here. Now, there's different schools of thought about that. Some people think that Twitter is a voice [and] mirrors the personality of the person who's doing it, so, you could have many voices. . . . The thing you have to be careful about is that you want to know what information is going out there. You want to have some control over that. You want to make sure that you're not sending conflicting messages."
