New From Sesame Street: Read and Record Books For Your Children Using Your iPhone

Yes, now you can use your iPhone to read and record stories for your kids.

The Wall Street Journal reports on a new app for the iPhone that allows parents, other relatives, any one you choose, to read and record select Sesame Street books. Right now, one title is available but expect six more titles in January. This is in addition to the line of eBooks that the Sesame Workshop launched for children 2-6 a few weeks ago. There are a few free titles available now with much more to come in January.

Sesame Workshop has partnered with ScrollMotion to bring the first in a series of Sesame titles to the iPhone and iPod touch. ScrollMotion’s Iceberg Reader and the Sesame Apps also allow users to record their own voice using the iPhone microphone, which Josh Koppell, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of ScrollMotion, says acts as a digital keepsake. “Not only can you record a parent’s voice reading the story so the kids can listen to it, but what about grandparents? Someday, you might wish you captured their voices, too."

Earlier this month, ScrollMotion released Veggie Tales and Curious George Apps for its Iceberg Reader, which Mr. Koppell says have been “enormously popular,” though he declined to comment upon specific number of downloads.
