Readex, a division of NewsBank, will release a digital edition of FBIS [Foreign Broadcast Information Service] Daily Report Annexes, 1974-1996 in early 2010. An essential complement to FBIS Daily Reports, 1974-1996, the approximately 5,500 Annexes in this unique collection offer fresh insight into decades of turbulent world events.
FBIS Daily Report Annexes, 1974-1996 provides more than two decades of international, national and local perspectives on such topics as Middle East crises and negotiations, the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, the secret acquisition of radar systems by the People’s Republic of China, and much more. Full text searchable for the first time, FBIS Daily Report Annexes will feature individual citations for each article as well as highlighted events to assist student researchers.
Like the related Daily Reports, FBIS Daily Report Annexes presents views and information from thousands of monitored broadcasts and publications. Created by the U.S. intelligence community to benefit analysts and policy makers, Annexes were “For Official Use Only.” Only the Central Intelligence Agency holds all of the Annexes, although some libraries may have a few copies in their Government Documents collections.

The Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Report and its successor have been the United States’ principal record of political and historical open source intelligence for nearly 70 years. The original mission of the FBIS was to monitor, record, transcribe and translate intercepted radio broadcasts from foreign governments, official news services, and clandestine broadcasts from enemy and occupied territories.
