UK: AIDSspace – social networking for the global AIDS community

AIDSspace is a social networking site for the global AIDS community – launched by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in October 2009. This site demonstrates how effectively social networking can connect people, facilitate the exchange of ideas, and provide a forum for a community to post and share related content. Free to access and definitely worth a look.

The AIDS Epidemic Update report (2009) published this month points out that new HIV infections have been reduced by 17% over the past eight years and some key stats are:

* Number of people living with HIV in 2008 = 33.4 million
* People newly infected with HIV in 2008 = 2.7 million
* Aids-related deaths in 2008 = 2.0 million

World Aids Day and the National Aids Trust is encouraging us all to ‘Do Something’ - support World Aids Day and buy a red ribbon, organise an event, fundraising etc.

Intute features a comprehensive collection of resources on HIV and AIDS.
