Mobile: Remotely Search Your Computer Using Copernic Desktop Mobile; SoonR, Another Option
We've been admirers and users of Copernic's Desktop Search (CDS) since day one. In fact, Gary wrote a review of the search tool the day it launched on Search Engine Watch. Since then, Copernic has added numerous new features and remains the desktop search tool we use the most.
A week ago (sorry to be late to the party on this one) Copernic has introduced a beta version of their mobile desktop search that allows the user (iPhone capable, btw) to search their computers hard drive remotely with CDS or Windows Desktop Search.
Take note that the company is very clear that this release is for testing purposes, in other words a real beta. :-)

Copernic Mobile is a preview release and is being made available for testing purposes only. It is intended for our testing community
Features include a secure login and encryption. Plus:
* Displays preview of found items with text excerpts, picture thumbnails and metadata
* Breaks file and email previews into multiple pages for quick display
* Highlights search terms in result lists and previews
* Displays compact versions of images to fit phone screens
* Allows users to download remote files
* Allows instant dialing of phone numbers found in address books
SoonR and Orb are other product that we've mentioned many times on ResourceShelf. It offers phone access to your hard drive (you specify the files). SoonR offers mobile Skype access and desktop search if you use the Google, Yahoo, X1, or Microsoft services.
We've just installed Copernic Mobile Search and will update this post in the very near future.
