Faceted search has been available in the JSTOR Sandbox since the end of May. It offers the opportunity to deepen or expand searches by breaking down your search results into different categories, or "facets".
You can use the faceted search to narrow results by:
Discipline
Journal
Article type
Publication date
Language
Times article is cited in JSTOR
Number of pages
Articles with images
As of October, improvements have been made to the original faceted search. The new version includes some basic interface changes and three exciting new features.
“More Like This”
When you locate a promising article through the Faceted Search, you may now click on a "More Like This" link to bring up similar articles.
Article-level keywords
Each article in your search results will display article-level keywords. You may use these keywords to identify important concepts within the article and to search for other articles with the same keywords.
Interactive query refinement
By using a "slider", you can fine-tune your search by increasing or decreasing the importance (or “weight”) that the search gives to your selected facets and search terms. This feature enables the iterative formation of sophisticated query expressions without the need for complex Boolean equations.
We hope you take some time to experiment with these new features, and send us any suggestions or comments. As we continue to refine Faceted Search further, your feedback is critical in helping us build an exciting tool that will greatly enhance discoverability within the JSTOR Archive.
