Voice Mail Gets a Lot More Fun With Free Services
Sarmad Ali in the WSJ has a positive review of YouMail along with a mention of GrandCentral (now in the Google family). Here are a few more "related" services that are worthy of your attention in this space. All are free so take a look at each and see which what meets your needs.

+ Reqall
Leave yourself voice mail. Get a daily text transcript.
+ CallWave
Receive voicemail as SMS messages.
+ SpinVox

SpinVox converts voice messages, from any phone, to any screen: making messaging natural and accessible for everyone.

Two More
+ PrivatePhone.
This basic service, free, allows a user to get a voicemail inbox in just about ANY area code. Tons of features including the ability to listen to your voicemail on the web. Also, some might "find useful" in certain situations the "Gotta Go Call™" service.

Gotta Go Call™ lets you schedule a future call back on your phone with an automated message. This can be used if you need to leave an uncomfortable social situation. We will call you back on the phone that you used to schedule the Gotta Go Call™. This way you don't have to ask your friends to call you, and you know for sure you'll get the call!

Finally, need a temporary (auto expiring) phone number (an hour, day, month) take a look at numbr
From the numbr FAQ:
numbr is an auto-expiring, FREE anonymous phone number that forwards incoming call to your home or mobile phone. Callers do not see your home or mobile numbers. Allocated numbrs are unique and they will not be reuse.
