xcavator Content Based Image Search Adds More Imagery and More Image Search Providers
Some news from the world of CBIR (content-based image retrieval).
Cognisign'sxcavator.net, an image search engine, has added more imagery to its database. This time the imagery comes from Getty Images' iStockphoto. These days, xcavator is home to more than 1.8 million images.
xcavator uses Cognisign's "Intelligent Image Recognition Technology" to help a researcher find additional images based on the the actual make-up of the image (shapes, colors, image composition, object proximity, or any combination of these factors) along with user-generated tags. Another feature xcavator offers is color search. Use a color wheel to find photos using the same or similar colors. Btw, any user can upload imagery to the xcavator database.
Of couse, xcavator is one of many players in this space. In these posts you can find links and background about several of them and in a few cases also find demos.
