Web Video Briefs: Brightcove and Fox Entertainment Group Announce Deal; New Country Sites for YouTube

1) From the news release:
Fast Facts:

+ Fox (TV), FX & Speed will be the first networks to launch ad-supported Internet video channels using Brightcove technology.

+ "Using Brightcove, each Fox network and studio has the ability to program and host ad-supported Internet video channels and highly-targeted consumer media campaigns."

+ "Brightcove's Internet TV services also empower FEG properties to expand the reach of hit programming through managed syndication to select website affiliates and viral promotion through social media features. The services can also harness the power of user-generated content and consumer video sharing; using Brightcove, FEG properties can recruit and review fan-submitted videos and add them to the programmed video content featured on their individual network and studio Web sites."

+ Others using Brightcove technology include British Sky Broadcasting (Sky), Discovery Communications Inc., Dow Jones & Company, Inc., National Geographic, The New York Times Company, Reuters and Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive.

+ Any user can set-up a Brightcove account (free) to host and share video. It's free. Tools to upload content are available as well as adding content from the Brightcove collection.

Here's an example, a quick and simple "ResourceShelf Channel" using some video we compiled from the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago. Note: Trekkies will be sure to enjoy one of the clips in our collection.

2) YouTube Now Available on Nine National Sites (Reuters, News.com)
New sites for Brazil, Britain, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain.

During the first stage of the international move, each site will offer fully translated local home pages and video search functions. Over time, each national site will have an entirely "local" feel that will allow for country-specific video rankings and comments in various sections, YouTube said.
