New URLs, Look, and Design for Many Yahoo Mobile Home Pages

Recently, the Yahoo mobile site for many countries/regions received a new URL and a bit of a makeover.

Quick Overview:
+ Yahoo's company color, purple, now noticeable on home page.

+ In some cases, ads appear at the top of the home page. We've posted a couple of times about spotting ads on the U.S. version in the past few months (screen cap). However, over the weekend we didn't notice ads on the U.S. version but did spot them elsewhere. The same goes for promos for other Yahoo services as seen here on the Singapore site.

The old URL (wap.oa.yahoo.com, screen cap) now redirects to http://us.m.yahoo.com. The U.S. portion of the URL can be replaced with other country abbreviations to get different versions. So, the base URL is m.yahoo.com plus a country code. For example:

+ U.K.=http://uk.m.yahoo.com

+ India=http://in.m.yahoo.com

+ Canada=http://ca.m.yahoo.com

+ Germany=http://de.m.yahoo.com

+ Australia and New Zealand=http://au.m.yahoo.com

and so on.

Each version contains a search box and two or three default services (with radio buttons to select). What you find varies by version. In almost all cases, you'll find:

+ Web Search

+ Image Search

+ Local Search or Product Search.

Also, each mobile page offers a list of other Yahoo services available for mobile users in that region or country.

For example:
+ Australia Finance Mobile
+ Canada's Yahoo Pictures as well as information about the Yahoo Go application.
+ UK "Travel Deals" and Yahoo Messenger Mobile
+ The U.S. site includes links to Flickr mobile, and Yahoo News.
