In the report, Jay Jordan, OCLC President and Chief Executive Officer, wrote that fiscal 2006 was “an extraordinary year for the OCLC cooperative. We set new records in cataloging and resource sharing, launched innovative new services in the U.S. and Europe, and entered into important strategic alliances that will accelerate pursuit of our mission.”
Jordan also noted that in a year of solid achievement, the OCLC cooperative and the library community were saddened by the death of OCLC’s founder, Frederick G. Kilgour, on July 31, 2006, at the age of 92. “In many ways, we at OCLC continue to act on the plans that he set forth in his original vision for OCLC nearly 40 years ago. We pay tribute to Fred in this annual report. He leaves us with a great legacy and exciting future.”
