Briefs: Google Book Search Adds New Features; MS Office Leader "Unfazed" by Google's Products, Let's Not Forget About Zoho

+ Microsoft says Office unfazed by Google threat (via News.com)
++ Remember, Microsoft's Web Based version of Office Live left beta last week in the U.S. and went INTO beta in other countries. They offer several tools (some free, some fee-based). This post has an overview and links. One free service allows users to register a domain name and create/host web pages.
++ If Web 2.0 is "all that" in developing useful tools then don't forget about the excellent work being done by these players, many small. Zoho is one of MANY examples. Numerous services (a full Office suite and productivity tools) that can get many jobs done and are constantly improving. All Zoho products are web-based and the company also gets kudos for keeping users updated with news on what's going on with each product.
Zoho services include:
+++ Zoho Writer, Word Processing
+++ Zoho Sheet, Spreadsheet
+++ Zoho Show (Slides and the like)
+++ Zoho Office Suite (Free for individual users)
+++ Zoho Projects
+++ Zoho Creator (Create Online Database Applications in minutes)
+++ Zoho Planner (Online organizer to maintain your todo’s, reminders, notes, attachments etc.)
We've also written about and use Site24x7 that monitors any web url for uptime, defacement and more.

+ Google Book Search Offers New Look, Features
Several new features including the option to continuous scroll, enlarge pages (hooray), find related materials, and full screen view. Several of these features have been part of Amazon's Search Inside the Book for a while. However, that does not mean they are not more than welcome from GBS.
Compare if you like the same book via:
GBS
Default View ||| "About this Book View" (found on default view page in the summary section)
It appears that the two page view is only available for full view books. What's a full view book vs other views (Limited Preview, Snippet View)? See this page.

Amazon's SITB
Additionally, a mouseover of the book cover on this Amazon page offers a link to statistics and other info (useful and fun) mined from the title including this concordance cloud, book citations, and key phrases. Amazon has also just added a link to books on related topics and in many cases the classic Amazon, "What do customers "ultimately buy" [or view] after looking at a specific entry is available.

See Also: Greg Notess takes a look at the new GBS features.

See Also: Two Recent Reviews of GBS and SITB by librarian reviewers of the highest order, Mick O'Leary and Peter Jacso. The Jacso post also includes a selected list of "other" book digitzation projects.
