New Beta from Microsoft: Certain SMS Search Features Now Available from Windows Live Search
Microsoft Adds (Beta) Certain SMS Search Features to Windows Live Search
The folks in Redmond have added an SMS version of Windows Live Search for SMS (text message) users. This is in addition to the mobile web version of Windows Live Search that has been available for several months.
To access, send a text message to 95483 (WLIVE). The service is free but remember you pay for the text message depending on the rates from your wireless provider. This beta release is only available in the U.S. for Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, and Alltel customers.
The SMS version of Windows Live Search includes:
+ Local Business Info
+ Residential Listings
+ Instant Answers
This page offers examples and allows you the opportunity to demo the service. Even more in this blog post.
This is not Microsoft's first use of SMS as a delivery tool. We've posted many times about the excellent traffic alerts available via SMS via MSN Autos. Live.com and Yahoo also offers alerts delivered via SMS.
