Latin American Libraries: Presentation by Dr. William V. Jackson
"Dr. Jackson, Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas, Austin, is currently Senior Fellow at Dominican University and Visiting Lecturer at Pratt Institute. He has long specialized in library development in Latin American, as well as on Latin American resources in U.S. institutions, and has undertaken numerous assignments in all parts of the region-as consultant to the U.S. Information Service (USIS) in many countries and to Agency for International Development (AID) on the national textbook program in Brazil. He has been a visiting professor at the library schools of the University of Antioquia and University of Buenos Aires. Dr. Jackson has also taught international librarianship at the University of South Florida. Among individual institutions with which he has worked are the University of San Marcos, University del Norte, Francisco Marroquin University, and Universidad Federal de Santa Maria. He has written numerous books, reports, articles, and reviews, including Aspects of Librarianship in Latin America (1962, sec ed, 1992). He is past president of the Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials (SALALM) and as chair of ALA's International Relations Round Table. Recently he undertook two missions to Bolivia, and for the past five years has served as continuing advisor on library development to USIS in EL Salvador and to a number of individual institutions in that country."
