Virtually Fly Around the Globe in 3D With SkylineGlobe (Beta); Developers API Also Available

Well, if one beta is cool, how about two?

First, Nexidia (the multimedia engine, see below) and now another product we’ve been writing about for months has released its public beta. SkylineGlobe is here as a beta release!

A detailed overview of SkylineGlobe titled, "SkylineGlobe: A Whole New World" was written (we linked to it) in June by Adena Schutzberg from Directions magazine. To put it mildly, Adena is a true guru in this space and I think we can summarize that she was impressed with her sneak preview of the product. Since then, we've been checking the site on a regular basis to see if/when the software would become available. Well, in the past few days or so, the service has gone live. It appears that the beta is U.S. only at this time.

A small gallery of images is available here. The clarity of the images is impressive.

Several versions of Skyline Globe (it's a plug-in for IE and Firefox) are available from free to:
- SkylineGlobe Pro

- SkylineGlobe Integrator Solution
- SkylineGlobe Local Government Solution
- Skyline Enterprise Solution

Requirements:
Firefox or IE
Windows (Sorry Mac people)

+ SkylineGlobe’s parent, Skyline Software has been around for many years. In fact, we recently posted about a virtual tour of Mt. Everest using Skyline technology. This post also links to a News.com article that notes that Skyline is currently involved in a patent lawsuit vs. Google that is set for trial in the next couple of months.
