Lycos (Yes, Lycos) Announces New Free E-Mail Program: 3GB of Storage & Send Unlimited Sized Attachments

Could this be another missle in the email wars?

Lycos (that's a name we haven't mentioned a lot lately) announced today that they're now offering 3GB of email storage space and the ability to send file attachments of any size (no restrictions) for FREE. It's an ad-sponsored (Google ads) service. The important fact with the free service is that if you do not use your account for 30 days it will be deleted.

Want more?

Lycos is also offering two fee-based programs:
1) $5.95/year the same features PLUS what they call "account preservation."

2) $19.95/year offers an ad-free service, 5GB of storage, unlimited attachments, POP3 and other email client access.

Regarding the free service:
Searching your mail using terms in:
+ title
+ body
+ title & body
+ attachment
+ sender
+ receiver

The free service also includes filters (both personal and spam) access to open read your mail from other email accounts, and other features including an address book (importing tools available)

As we said, this service just launched this morning. So stay tuned for more.
