More Web 2.0 Apps, Understanding (or Not) the IE 7 Beta Search Toolbar

Search Briefs
+ Lists: Looking at "Web 2.0" Companies and Apps
Of course, just defining Web 2.0 is an issue. This list offers many possible tools and services to add to your personal list. Of course, the Web 2.0 Awards (Gary was a contributor) is also loaded with tons of resources, interviews, and commentary.

+ New IE 7.0 Beta and the Toolbar Search Box
The Talking Heads might have said it best when they said to Stop Making Sense. We downloaded the March 20th Version of the IE 7.0 Beta 2 Preview and noticed the toolbar search box came pre-loaded with one search engine as the default. We would have expected it to be MSN Search. Nope. It came pre-loaded with Google as the default.
UPDATE: OOPS, we goofed. Thanks to Michael Fagan for pointing out that we were wrong with this post. This IE Blog post clearly point out that the Search Toolbar keeps whatever search default was part of your IE 6 installation. That said, it was surprising that MSN Search was pre-listed as an option (not as the default). With all of the rhetoric from Bill G. and Steve B. about web search we would have expected this to be much different. Yes, it is easy to add other engines to the toolbar and MSN Search is even listed as one of the engines available but I'm still surprised that MSN Search didn't come pre-loaded as an option. Again, kudos for not changing things but I would think that from a marketing standpoint getting new people to easily check out the new MSN Search would be something the company would want to get done.
