Web Resource of the Week
Source: Financial Times
Country and Industry Surveys From the Financial Times
Some really great content here. Youll find surveys for dozens of countries and other areas (e.g. Alberta, Cayman Islands, Egypt, New South Wales) and even more industries (e.g. Business Education, Automotive, E-Learning, World Insurance). Each survey contains several articles about various aspects of the topic. For example, the Food Processing Industry survey contains stories on food safety, organic and functional foods, drink brands, and industry trends. Surveys also contain links to "previous" or "related" surveys that might NOT be linked from the primary web page. In addition to the surveys, the FT also provides web access to "People Dossiers". These reports contain biographical information on key global business leaders along with a direct link to run a search on that person in the FT Global Archive of full-text material (free).

Information Architecture--Conference
Source: ASIST
Presentations from the 3rd Annual ASIST Information Architecture Summit
Material from many well known presenters. The conference took place last month in Baltimore. Begin by heading to the conference schedule and note the presentations you're interested in. Then, move to this page where you'll find the links to the presentations. I've been looking at presentation by Matt Jones, an info architect at the BBC. Matt's presentation is titled, "BBCi Search - Why Search Isn't Just a Technology Problem".

Metadata

"Metadata As If Libraries Depended on It"
Roy Tennant's monthly column provides a well-written and solid overview of metadata. Tennant writes, "In digital library work, we often talk about metadata, what I jokingly call "cataloging by those paid better than librarians."
See Also, Introduction to Metadata: Pathways to Digital Information
From the Getty Research Institute. The full-text is available on the web.

News Brief
Kudos to the Resource Discovery Network
The RDN, a U.K. based "hub" to numerous compilations of high quality web resources, has just cataloged resource number 50,000. Along with the LII and Infomine, the RDN is a "must have" portal to quality web material.
