From the article, "The Internet2 consortium of research universities will try to build a Web directory of millions of people in higher education. The directory would be, in effect, an electronic "white pages" of students and faculty and staff members, with information about how to communicate with them electronically over the Internet..."This is an experiment," says Michael R. Gettes, principal technologist at Georgetown University, who is one of the project's leaders. Few directories of the size anticipated have ever been built, and the necessary standardization is often hard to achieve when many institutions are involved."
